Jet streams are basically strong wind streams roaming high in the atmosphere. They are responsible for moving the weather from place to place. The subtropical jet stream can affect Florida weather in the 'winter' time, when winds coming from colder and hotter parts clash, creating jet winds. These basically send storms to the areas reaching as far as south of Florida, resulting, for instance, in more tornadoes.
