The leading figure of the Protestant Reformation in Geneva was John Calvin, a French theologian best known for the doctrine of predistination which held that those who could be saved, the elect, had always been destined for salvation. Calvin came to Geneva at the behest of William Farel, and preached as many as five sermons a week during his years there.
