Although infectious disease preventive measures for U.S. soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan have been largely successful, American clinicians should be watchful for infections – including leishmaniasis and multidrug-resistant nosocomial infections – in veterans of the wars, according to military medical experts. Other infectious diseases – including Q fever, typhoid and malaria – should also be considered.
