As they spread apart, magma comes to the surface and becomes new continental crust. As the tectonic plates move away from spreading zones, they collide with one another.

ANSWER:

There are a number of evidences by which scientists support the plate tectonic theory. One of the evidence is the fossils of animals and plants. The species found in the Antarctic are alike the fossils of western Africa and eastern South America. The paleomagnetic evidence is one of the strongest evidence. The magnetic strata found within the fossil record clearly proves that these pieces of land masses in history were a single unit.
