A pre-dreadnought Indiana-class battleship, USS Oregon was well known battle ship of the United States. Its remarkable voyage from San Francisco to Jupiter Inlet that lasted 66 days and spanned 14,000 nautical miles made this ship known to the wider public and also demonstrated the need for a new water route which led to the creation of the Panama Canal.
