An abnormal sensation of numbness and tingling caused by an injury to a nerve is known as: paresthesia. The most familiar kind of paresthesia is the sensation known as "pins and needles" or of a limb "falling asleep". It is not very known and uncommon but important paresthesia is formication, the sensation of that there is a bug crawling in your skin.
