Why do you think the west coast was settled before the interior of the United States?

The west coast is easier to access, seen as it is right beside water. The water also makes it easier to transport goods, irrigate crops, and clean clothes/utensils. The interior is harder to get at because you would either have to use many materials building wagons, or travelling for much too long on foot or horseback.
