Calcitonin hormone is primarily involved in the production of bone. It lowers blood calcium and phosphorus by binding to osteoclasts and inhibits bone resorption in the kidneys. The inhibition of osteoclast reduce the amount of calcium release in the bloodstream thus producing an increase in bone mass. In addition, this is also use to relieve pain caused by spinal vertebra compression factures and in patients with arthritis.
