Chemosynthetic bacteria are commonly found in active volcanic faults such as in deep ocean floors where sunlight is not able to infiltrate. The vents that spew gas and other inorganic minerals such as oil give the best substrates for the bacteria.
The bacteria utilize the products for energy, through oxidation, and produce organic material as byproducts.
