The difference between major depression and "run-of-the-mill" depression is that

Major depression is when one is totally incapacitated and doing anything seems extremely difficult, even washing the dishes. Also, there can be a tendency to take forever to make a fairly simple decision. Major depression can last for months whereas minor depression may only last a day or two or say maximum one week.
