Since the triangles are similar then the ratios of corresponding sides are equal, that is


(XZ)/(AC) =
(XY)/(AB) , substitute values


(XZ)/(9) =
(16)/(4) = 4 ( multiply both sides by 9 )

XZ = 36 cm

and


(BC)/(YZ) =
(AB)/(XY)


(BC)/(48) =
(4)/(16) ( cross- multiply )

16BC = 192 ( divide both sides by 16 )

BC = 12 cm
