During George Washington’s administration, there were only four cabinet positions namely: Secretary of State, Secretary of Treasury, Secretary of War, and Attorney General. To maintain its credibility, George Washington decided to appoint cabinet secretaries coming from different regions. Today, though, United States maintain 16 members, which includes the vice president.
