Today, Antarctic ice shelves are disintegrating. Ice shelves are thick floating platforms of ice that are formed where a glacier or ice sheet flows down to a coastline onto the ocean surface. Ice shelves are only seen in Antarctica, Canada, Greenland, and the Russian Arctic.
