According to Karl Marx, societies shifted from Gemeinschaft (a community, and at the same time a society; a place where social interactions between individuals is on the basis of close personal and family ties) to Gesellschaft (a place where social interactions between individuals is on the basis of impersonal ties; social relations is a duty to the society) because of the invention of CAPITALISM.
