Feudalism in Japan appeared only in the 1100s while in Europe it had appeared in the 800s and the European feudalism ended with the emergence of stronger political states in the 16th century while Japanese feudalism continued till the 19th century. The most notable difference between the two feudalism was the philosophy of death. The knights were bound by Catholic Christian law and hence tried to avoid ending their life, but for a Samurai defeat brought dishonor and for maintaining their honor they used to end their life which was known as Harakiri.
