The Compromise of 1877 ended military occupation of Northern troops in the South, led to Rutherford B. Hayes election and ultimately led to the end of Reconstruction. This compromise was actually unwritten deal that took place right after the presidential election of 1876 which is considered to be one of the controversial elections ever. As a result of this event, the term Reconstruction had been wiped out in gradual way.
