Abolitionists were cautious and not jubilant when Lincoln was elected president in 1860 because Lincoln "never spoke out against slavery".

Abolitionists were those following Abolitionism aimed at ending the slavery of Africans or anyone for that matter. John Brown is known to be the most militant abolitionist who is reported to have lead many attacks on people in favor of slavery.
