The answer is lack of conservation. This refers to a logical thinking capability which, according to the psychologist Jean Piaget, is not existing in kids during the preoperational stage of their growth at ages 2–7, but progresses in the real operational phase at ages 7–11. This refers to the capability to conclude that a definite measure will stay the same in spite of adjustment of the bottle, form, or apparent size.
