The correct answer should be B. Earth was bigger around than he calculated.
When Columbus wanted to get to East Indies, he miscalculated how long it would take him because obviously he didn't have a precise idea of how big Earth actually was. This is why he had a few problems during his voyage that he didn't anticipate.
