Spiral galaxies are one of the different types of galaxies in the universe. As the name suggests they are spiral with a bulging center and extending arms that spiral around the center. They have a super massive black hole at their center and this keeps the stars in orbit around the center. Elliptical galaxies are somewhat spheroid and are made of relatively older stars. The stars in this type of galaxy are in relatively random motion.
