The main reason why classical allegories are not regarded as realistic fiction is because they almost always contain characters and settings that are in no way realistic, unlike most fiction which uses characters that could possibly reside on earth.

Classical allegories include retellings of a metaphorical political matter told through animals who speak or events that are usually fantastical and bizarre. Allegories focus on plot, subtext meaning, and symbolic representation.

On the other hand, realistic fiction focuses on realistic complex characters, who struggle and develop in an ordinary real-world setting.
