Ford's payment system, referred to as the family wage plan, reinforced women's economic dependence at home. The entire plan centered around the fact that Ford realized that he should pay his workers livable wages, that they should be able to afford to purchase the very things they spent their days making. He settled on a $5 per day wage for this plan.
