HbA1C forms when the hemoglobin combines with blood glucose. Thus, this type of hemoglobin is called glycated. The HbA1C reflects the average concentration of plasma glucose in the blood. If the HbA1C measurement is below 6.0%, then the patient has a normal plasma glucose concentration. However, if the reading is from 6.0% to 6.4% or 6.5% and above, then it means that the person suffers from prediabetes or diabetes respectively. If the reading is above 6.0% then a 3-year-old child must undergo a major lifestyle change or get prescription drugs to manage the insulin level in the blood.
