What is the function of myeloma cells used in the production of monoclonal antibodies?

A suspension includes B cells that make antibodies against the antigen. The spleen cells are then mixed with myeloma cells that are can make of continuous growth in culture but have lost the ability to make. These cells that are hybrid are now capable to continue grow in culture while producing antibodies.
