Under anaerobic conditions, the final product of the glycolytic breakdown of glucose is Lactate. This lactate is thereafter transported by the blood to the Liver, where it will be resynthesized to glucose. In the Liver, lactate is first converted into pyruvate by the Cori Cycle; pyruvate is then used as a substrate in the gluconeogenic pathway for the synthesis of glucose.
