The accumulation of mineral salts in irrigated land is called soil salination. One of the undesired effects of irrigation is soil salination. Irrigation water often contains some salt at varying levels. Salt is nasty to plants and does not make themn grow, so farmers have to deal with salination by flushing the soil with extra water to leach salts out. Proper soil management and monitoring of water table is necessary to reduce impact of salination to soil quality.
