The Preterite and Imperfect tenses both tell what happened in the past, but they are used depending on what information is being given. Preterite actions tell what happened at a specific moment in time (I ate cereal this morning). Imperfect actions tell what generally, used to, or was happening (I used to eat cereal every morning). Using the notes above select whether the sentence would be an example of the Preterite or Imperfect tense: *

Preterite Imperfect
I broke my ankle last year.
I visited my grandma every summer.
It was rainy and cold.
We went to the store on Saturday.
I took a shower, got dressed, and fixed my hair.
I used to play soccer.
