Mike had a jar of nickels that had five more nickels than he originally thought. If the total amount of nickels was $4.35, how many nickels did Mike think he had originally?

if the total amount was 4.35, which is (4.35 / 0.05) = 87 nickels.....and this is 5 more then he originally thought....so he thought he had (87 - 5) = 82 nickels

82 nickels he originally thought. 20 nickels per $1 so multiply 20 by 4 then add two nickels. Hope this helps.
