What factor led to rapid growth in chicago minneapolis and denver?

The railroad system made commerce easier between states. Resources of all sorts, both natural and man-made, were transported with ease when the train system was finished and running. It was not initially created for commercial traffic, rather, the outcome was to make commerce easier and trading a major factor of wealth.
