Differences between French and American trains:
• trains operate faster
• trains operate more frequently
• the amount of electrified railroad tracks is much higher

Similarities between French and American trains:
• the majority of trains operate on standard gauge (4 ft 8½ in or 1435mm)
• reservation is mandatory for long distance/night trains.
