In the United Stated the president and vice president are formally elected by the Electoral College. The Electoral College is formed by two parts: First, the Senate, two men or women of each State. Second, the House of representatives, a certain number of representatives calculated according to the population of each State. In the end, there is a total of 528 electors and a candidate needs a total of 270 votes to win by an absolute majority. As an example, president Trump won 30 states with a total of 306 electors (57% of total votes).
