25/80 + 24/80 = 49/80. 16 and 20 both go into 80. !6 goes in 5 times so you multiply 5 by 5. 20 goes into 80 4 times so you multiply 4 by 4. 24/80 + 25/80 = 49/80.

Answer:

49/80

Explanation:

For getting a common denominator, each term must be multiplied in numerator and denominator by the denominator of the other term.

For example:

  • The 5/16 term must be multiplied by 20 (both 5 and 16)
  • The 6/20 term must be multiplied by 16 (both 6 and 20)

The terms would be like this:

(5x20)/(16x20)+(6x16)/(20x16)

The result would be:

100/320+96/320

As common denominator is already obtained, the expression could be one.

(100+96)/320=196/320

Now, the previous expression could be simplified. If we divide the numerator and the denominator by 4, the following result is obtained:

(196/4)/(320/4)=49/80

The expression with common denominator would be: 49/80
