The main challenge Cyprus must overcome to reunify is to solve the military occupation of it's northern half by the military of the country of Turkey. Cyprus has enlisted the help of the European Union and the United Nations Council, but progress has been slow. This slow rate of progress, which is the other major challenge for Cyprus, towards a resolution only benefits the country of Turkey because it means that their military is able to occupy for longer.
