Charles Townshend (1725-1767), generated the heavy taxation for the American colonies that upset people in America. People in the new continent didn't like the idea of that heavy taxation and hostilities increased between the colonies and the English monarchy. Of course, tension aroused and this led to the American Revolutionary War. Instead of getting more money with taxation, Britain ended up losing the colonies.
