If a person is allergic to shellfish, he might even be allergic to iodine and iodine skin preparations such as betadine. Thus, just prior to a patient entering the cardiac catheterization lab if he tells that he is allergic to shellfish, the nurse should ASK WHETHER HE IS EVEN ALLERGIC TO IODINE.
