Finney's achievement was the most successful religious revivalist during that period. While religious groups such as the Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, and Seventh-day Adventists started to become closed and exclusivist, he was admired and became influential among the mainstream Christians. He never begun his own church, and never claimed any special leadership that put himself above other religious people.
