What did the supreme court decide in the dred scott case? did the court do too much in its ruling or was it winthin its traditional?

They Decided that Dred Scott was African American, so he was not entitled to his freedom.
The court was doing only what its justices did. The court said no just like how 8/10 of the justices descented.
