Spikes are genre of research Enabler Story in SAFe. Described initially in utmost programming (XP), they represent exercise such as research, design, investigation, exploration, and prototyping.
Spikes initially come in two forms: technical and functional
Their aim is to increase the knowledge necessary to reduce the risk of a technical approach, better understand a requirement, or gain the reliability of a story estimate.
