The principle that is illustrated by this excerpt from the Constitution is:

  • D. Checks and balances

This excerpt from the Constitution is basically establishing that the Senate has the power to impeach the President of the United States. It also establishes the requirements that must be met in order for the impeachment to take place. The principle of checks and balances is instituted through the powers that each of the three branches has over the other two. The three branches being: the legislative branch, the judicial branch, and the executive branch. Finally, the excerpt shows the power that the judicial and legislative branch have over the executive branch. Checks and balances help provide the people a fair government.
