Sam and Joe are painters. Sam makes 2$ an hour less than joe. On a job that took them both 40 hours to complete they made 440. How much does Sam make an hour?

Joe = $x
Sam = $x - 2
Sam makes $80 less that Joe in 40 hrs
40x + 40x - 80 =440
80x= 440+80
80x= 520
x= $6.50
Sam= $6.50 - $2
= $4.50
