According to the sapir-whorf hypothesis, pronouns like "i", "me", and "my" are used more often in Western civilization cultures. Countries considered to be in the West generally identify as independent and nuclear, compared to people groups, for example, in Asia, where humans are more community and family-minded. In countries such as the United States or France, there is more competition between people, and ideology of betterment of the person, whereas in other nations, betterment of the community group or family is the goal.
