The chemical progesterone attracts the sperm to the egg in the hope of fertilization. The sperm goes from the areas of lower concentrations of progesterone to the areas of higher concentrations of progesterone. The eggs are surrounded by the higher levels, attracting the sperm. Scientists also believe a chemical called bourgeonal may be involved in attracting sperm to eggs.
