`y=3`

Substitute the value of y.

`6x+3y=21`

`6x+3(3)=21`
Simplify.

`6x+9=21`
Add -9 to both sides.

`(6x+9)+(-9)=(21)+(-9)`

`6x=12`
Divide both sides by 6.

`(6x)/(6)= (12)/(6)`

`x=2`
