The equations are written in the form y=mx+b,where m is the slope. So the number that comes right before x is the slope. Two lines are perpendicular if the slopes are negative reciprocals of each other. This means the slope of one line is flipped and is the opposite of the other slope. Two lines are parallel if their slopes are the same.
