Dilation is a transformation that does not produce a congruent image.

When the dilation factor is greater than 1, the resultant figure is bigger than original.

When the dilation factor is less than 1, the resultant figure is shorter than original.

Dilation, then causes enlargement or contraction, which, of course, do not produce a congruent image with the original one.
