The turning point would be the Spanish – American War. It was clashed between the United States and Spain in 1898. Conflicts began in the result of the inner eruption of the USS Maine in Havana Harbor in Cuba leading to United States involvement in the Cuban War of Independence. American attainment of Spain's Pacific possessions led to its participation in the Philippine Revolution and eventually in the Philippine–American War.
