As good as ever streets were produced, for example, the National Road between Cumberland, Maryland and Wheeling, Virginia. Steam control changed go along regular waterways with the appearance of the steamboat, bringing down expenses and diminishing transport times. Man-made channels, for example, the Erie Canal connected seaboard urban areas specifically with Great Lakes.
