The Magna Carta was signed in 1215. Its purpose was to limit the kings power. (Limited government).

It was written with a series of promises stating that the king and his subjects would govern England and deal with the people according to the feudal law. It was also and attempt by the barons to stop the king which was John from abusing his power while the people of England suffered. It was signed in 1215.
