the parent functuion is the absolute value funtion

f(x) = |x|
f(x+c) shifting to the left by c units
f(x-c) shifting to the right by c units
f(x)+c shifting up by c units
f(x)-c shifting down by c units

g(x) = f(x - 2) - 2 = |x - 2| - 2
