Polyatomic ions are ions that are made up of two or more atoms which are linked by covalent bonds but which still have a net deficiency or surplus of electrons, resulting in an overall charge on the group.
When a metal react with a polyatomic ion the product will be an ionic compound.
Examples of polyatomic ions are: NH4+, H3O+, MnO4-, CIO3-, etc.
